It has been reported that the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan has sent a letter to the Olympic Council of Asia stating that Tashkent will not be able to host the games in September 2025. The relocation of the Asian Games to Bahrain is due to the inability to complete the construction of the Olympic village in Tashkent on time.
OCA Secretary General Husain Al-Musallam noted that since these competitions are linked to the Youth Olympic Games 2026 in Dakar (Senegal) in terms of age restrictions and qualification criteria, they cannot be postponed to a later date.
The Bahrain Olympic Committee stated that the country has the necessary conditions to host the games: stadiums, accommodation, and medical services.
The OCA expressed gratitude to the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan for all its investments, stating that Uzbekistan will be able to host major events in the future.
It is worth noting that construction of the Olympic village, costing $289 million, began in Tashkent in 2022 for the purpose of hosting these competitions.
