In his message, Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed special gratitude to Rafael Grossi, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, for his active support of the initiative to hold and personally participate in such an important and authoritative forum in Uzbekistan.
“In today's conditions, when the negative consequences of climate change and the shortage of traditional energy sources are becoming increasingly evident, the peaceful use of nuclear energy emerges as a crucial alternative solution aimed at improving the quality of life and implementing national development strategies,” the President noted.
At the COP28 climate summit held in Dubai in 2023, leaders from many countries reached several agreements to triple nuclear energy capacity by 2050, which will significantly reduce the negative impact of hydrocarbon energy sources on the environment.
It was emphasized that “the use of reliable, safe, economically efficient, and environmentally friendly energy sources is one of the main priorities of the large-scale reforms being carried out in New Uzbekistan.”
Shavkat Mirziyoyev pointed out that Uzbekistan was one of the first countries in the world to begin the construction of small nuclear power plants in accordance with international requirements and standards. The country views the IAEA as “an important partner in the successful implementation of these projects and a number of programs in the fields of science and healthcare.”
There is confidence that the introduction of advanced nuclear energy technologies will provide an additional impetus for Uzbekistan's development, leading to new scientific and technical advancements and a transition to an innovative economy.
“Today’s conference will serve as an important platform for exchanging knowledge and experience accumulated in this field, fostering comprehensive cooperation, and developing specific recommendations and practical proposals for the effective use of peaceful nuclear energy to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals,” the message emphasizes.
The conference agenda includes pressing issues such as the construction of nuclear power plants, ensuring their safety, and the environmental aspects of developing nuclear technologies, implemented in coordination with the IAEA.
The forum will also focus on innovations, nuclear medicine, the development of education, and the training of qualified personnel for the nuclear sector.
Uzbekistan is always ready for close collaboration with all foreign partners in this priority area, as stated in the message from the head of state.
