It has been noted that, according to the presidential decree dated October 10, 2023, six independent enterprises focused on infrastructure, wagon maintenance, and passenger transportation have begun operations within the joint-stock company "Uzbekistan Railways." The train fleet is being expanded. Special attention is being given to enhancing convenience for passengers and tourists. In particular, new train sets have been acquired, and the frequency of Afrosiyob electric train services between Tashkent and historical cities such as Samarkand, Bukhara, and Karshi has increased.
Over the past period, more than 3,000 kilometers of railways in the country have been electrified. The electrification of the Bukhara – Urgench – Khiva railway line is in its final stages, while work on the Miskin – Nukus route is progressing at an accelerated pace.
An electrified railway has also been constructed in the vicinity of Tashkent, which has increased the trains' capacity by 30 percent.
Now, a new electric train has been commissioned on the Tashkent – Khojikent route. The President took a trip on the train to Khojikent to familiarize himself with its capabilities.
The train, which has a capacity of 586 passenger seats, is spacious and comfortable. Information displays and a fire safety system have been installed. The train can reach speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour. Three trips a day will operate in each direction.
During the journey, the head of state received reports on the development of railway infrastructure, improvement of passenger conditions, electrification of railways, and landscaping along the tracks.
The President instructed to include the areas adjacent to the railway between Tashkent and Khojikent in the renovation program for 2025 and to put them in order. He also emphasized the need to straighten the winding sections of the route to increase the number of daily express train services and accommodate even more passengers.
During the trip, the work under the "Green Zone" project was discussed. The necessity of greening railway embankments, planting drought-resistant plants using international experience in regions with limited water resources, and importing saplings suitable for the local climate was highlighted.
