Как безопасно установить новогоднюю елку и избежать пожара в квартире?

There is not much time left until the New Year, and the people of Uzbekistan have already begun decorating their homes in anticipation of the holiday. The editorial team decided to remind everyone of the Ministry of Emergency Situations' tips on how to set up a Christmas tree without risking a fire.

When setting up the New Year’s tree, it is crucial to pay attention to its placement. It should not obstruct the movement of people in the room or block doorways. Additionally, the tree should not be adorned with easily flammable decorations, such as cotton or lit candles—this applies to both artificial and natural trees.

Another hazardous decoration for the tree can be electric garlands. They should be chosen with the appropriate certification, and it is essential to check that they have not been damaged during storage in the store or at home. People often keep garlands for years, sometimes even decades, so it's important to inspect them for integrity before use.

During the inspection, pay attention to the condition of the wires, especially at the connections to the bulbs. If there is a smell of burnt plastic when turned on, it indicates that the wires are overheating or melting, and such a garland should be replaced.

After the holidays, the festive tree should not be kept for too long—artificial trees should be disassembled and stored away until the next celebrations, while real trees should be taken outside, as dried needles ignite very easily and quickly.

When an artificial tree burns, it releases very harmful substances. A drop of burning plastic that comes into contact with the skin can cause a deeper burn than a real hot coal.

It is worth noting that special regulations have also been developed for the installation of large trees set up in public squares, which can be reviewed via this link.
