Mathematician Shavkat Ayupov has been elected as the president of the Academy of Sciences.
Shavkat Ayupov was born in 1952. He graduated from Tashkent State University in 1974, where he was a student of the academician T.A. Sarymsakov. In 1977, he earned his Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences degree, followed by a Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences degree in 1983. Ayupov's primary research focuses on functional analysis and the theory of operator algebras, which are among the contemporary areas in this field. He has conducted significant scientific research in the realm of algebra. In 2021, he was awarded the title of "Hero of Uzbekistan." He is also a member of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis. The former head of the Academy of Sciences, Behzod Yuldashev, passed away in August.
