On October 10, during a meeting at the Straka Academy, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala expressed his country's interest in Uzbek uranium and copper while meeting with his Uzbek counterpart Abdulla Aripov.
Aripov's visit followed Fiala's meeting in Tashkent in April of this year. As previously reported by bne IntelliNews, last year Uzbekistan ranked fifth in the world for uranium production, extracting 3,300 tons of uranium within the year.
The parties also discussed the export of Czech-made mining equipment to Uzbekistan, as well as cooperation in transportation, education, and more.
Furthermore, Czech companies expressed their interest in becoming reliable partners for the armed forces of Uzbekistan during their recent visit to Tashkent earlier this year, proposing an alternative to military equipment from Russia.
“Since spring, we have managed to sign a contract for two L-410 aircraft, which were recently received by Uzbekistan Airways. Škoda Transportation is participating in the tender for the supply of trains, trams, and metro cars in Uzbekistan. We strongly support its proposal to supply 34 units for regional transport,” said Fiala on X.
If Škoda Transportation wins the tender, it will mark the largest contract ever signed by a Czech company in this Central Asian country.
